The Iron Valley, NdeNovela’s March novelty, takes as its basis the story of the miracle of the Iron Cross to build a historical thriller in which the strength of the female characters stands out. Set in 16th century Euskadi, the novel will allow us to get closer to rural life in the hamlets and the world of artisan trades.

The miracle of the Iron Cross

The iron valley is based on a real event: the miracle of the Iron Cross that took place on May 3, 1580. That day the Mirandaola ironworkers, faced with the accumulated workload, decided to violate one of the fundamental principles of those times: working on Sunday.

As usual, the ironworkers loaded the furnace with enough material to extract a 55 kilo piece of iron. However, what they found was a small fragment of only 5 kilos and, also, in the shape of a cross. The ferrones interpreted that as a punishment from the Lord for having worked on a Sunday.

What happened was not recognized as a miracle until 1633, when the bishop of Pamplona visited a nearby town, heard what happened and considered it to be a miraculous event.

Euskadi as the main stage

The setting is, without a doubt, one of the strong points of the novel. After carrying out exhaustive documentation work, Ane Odriozola draws multiple scenarios that take us to the rural life of the hamlets or the day-to-day life of craftsmen. The reader will visit places like Vitoria or La Rioja on an unforgettable journey to the mining heart of Euskadi.

The best of thrillers and historical novels

The Iron Valley is a novel with a historical background that is read with the emotion and intrigue of a thriller. Ane Odriozola skillfully unites the best aspects of these two genres in an agile novel, with a cast of protagonists as fascinating as they are enigmatic.

Two unique protagonists

In a time when women had no voice, Iron Valley changes the rules of the game and focuses the action on two female protagonists. Asencia and Jurdana are very different, but they have a common goal: to control and direct their own destiny, even when it seems impossible.
