Laberinto is Proyecto Ballena’s first album. Eleven songs that make up the sound universe of the novel. The songs talk about the feelings of the protagonists, addressing topics such as loneliness, love, climate change or new technologies. “We have rock as our flag, but we also play with pop, author songs or some touches of more mixed styles. In Proyecto Ballena we are all millennials or generation Z. We were born believing that we were going to take over the world, but the crisis The economic crisis of 2008 was a good shock of reality. Since then, our generations have experienced many changes: climate crisis, appearance of artificial intelligence, lack of job opportunities… Our songs are a reflection of all these circumstances.

On a compositional level, Laberinto is an album where poetic lyrics and musical arrangements gain importance. All instruments that sound are played and recorded by musicians. We wanted to escape from sound libraries. The objective is to generate a contrast between the novel, set in a dystopian future, and the organic soundtrack. In the future perhaps it could be classified as “old”, organic music; executed by humans.

“Proyecto Ballena” is a multidimensional proposal in which literature and music converge. Created for almost a decade by Román Búho, a young multi-instrumentalist and anthropologist, it is based on three main axes:

“The Skylinner Case”, Román Búho’s first fiction, (Ed. Letra Minúscula. 2024) is a futuristic crime novel with overtones of science fiction set in a dystopian world in which themes such as globalization, (in)equality or ecology are still on the agenda.

Year 3000. In the European Whale, the most powerful country on what was once the old European continent, someone has stolen Core 48, the most terrifying weapon ever created. General Bilbatua, a socially maladjusted agent, investigates his disappearance. Together with PR, an orphan with hacker skills, Carolina Wagner, a young woman with notable influence, and Mimi, a robot with extraordinary qualities, he will investigate until the case is solved in this exciting story of betrayal, love and power struggle.

The Original Soundtrack of the novel, “Labyrinth”, complements and facilitates the contextualization of the project in equal parts, providing information that helps us delve into the background of the characters while putting us in tune with the sensations that the texts evoke.

Finally, a powerful live show in which the aesthetics and staging have been carefully taken care of brings to our present a proposal that plays to dilute the borders between reality and fiction, present and future.
