What would happen if the future of Europe, perhaps of the world, depended on the vote of an old man? Nemesio, an octogenarian from a town in Extremadura, goes to vote on the verge of closing election day on a rainy Sunday night. By a surprising twist of fate, his vote will have to decide the result of a disconcerting referendum on Spain’s permanence in the European Union From that moment on, Nemesio and its unknown town will become the information center of the world.
Antonio Tena (Badajoz, 1977) is one of the voices of the new narrative that emerges after the pandemic. Writer of numerous short stories, the year 2022 is the turning point in his career with the appearance of his first novel, Nemesio or Chaos. The work has received recognition from the jury among the finalists of the Provincial Council of Córdoba Rural Novel Prize (2022), and in the Ciudad de Barbastro International Novel Prize (2022). The author has been awarded the Fray Francisco de las Casas Prize (2021) and the GK Chesterton Short Story Prize (2023).
