Casaleiz claims healthy love during adolescence in his latest book

‘Love does not hurt’ is the latest work by psychologist Carlos Casaliez Linero (Málaga 1969), a work that goes to the root of gender violence against young women and that tries to give the keys to parents and professionals to prevent it from the childhood

One hundred and twenty-two pages resulting from long work sessions with adolescents – or adults who suffered gender violence in their adolescence – make up this new editorial proposal.

Casaliez seeks to offer ideas for prevention or, if necessary, detection, even from the cover of the book itself, illustrated by the Malaga painter Ana Rodríguez, Taichiana, which shows a woman in black and white who does not finish spreading her wings and that rises full of color to fly.

Specialized in contextual, equality and gender therapies, when it comes to highlighting his skills for early detection in cases of gender violence in adolescence, he vindicates his vital resume. “This is what has helped me understand the needs and understand the difficulties that women have had in their history. Since I was little, I have been surrounded by female profiles with my mother, grandmother and four sisters. In consultation, today, I observe how we face a gigantic problem about which we must inform and, above all, educate” he explains.

The book tells a true story, placing the reader at the beginning of a romantic relationship that, like all adolescence, begins with the idealization of the chosen person. “It’s what we call romanticism elevated to the nth degree,” explains Casaleiz, who also states common phrases or expressions such as the better half or without you I can’t live. “This leads to a misunderstanding of what love is and, above all, the concept of a healthy couple,” she concludes.

To illustrate this, the man from Malaga in the journey of the courtship of his fictional characters, Mario and Lucía, brings up concepts such as degradation, reification, distortion of reality and defensive strategies.

The book, aimed at professionals who work with children at school or in other educational contexts, seeks to fulfill a double objective: to help teachers, fathers, mothers and other operators in the behaviors and dynamics that have an impact on the health of young people. and, on the other hand, offer the tools to think and carry out prevention interventions to accompany them on the path towards respectful, egalitarian and, above all, non-violent relationships.
