I don’t usually make a selection of the best reads of the year, but if I did, perhaps this book would be on it.

Where we meet again of Angels Germany It is a romantic drama that includes many social themes and talks about mental health. It is a self-published novel of about 282 pages, completely self-contained, which brings us a very heavy: suicideFor me it has been a Molotov cocktail of emotions: pain, sadness, hope, love, tenderness, empathy, compassion,… And I have realized the new quantum leap that the author has made again after the publication of Until the sun stops shiningAngels Alemany continues to grow as an author and does so without stopping.

The plot of this novel includes several stories that, at times, are a bit dizzying, because without going any further, the main story is a drama doble that Angels Alemany has to balance with dignity. Let me put you in context. We witness the life of a girl, Vicky, to whom something very serious has happened in the past (we don’t know what) and who is developing her existence between the memories of her youth with her best friend and a love affair that is blossoming in the present. She is full of traumas and had a suicide attempthas suffered bullying and also important losses, but now he has the new opportunity that life is giving him. So at times, Where we meet again It is a sweet and hopeful story, but with those two main dramas that Angels Alemany has to sustain. One of them is about the past, the other will be in the future. Does the author manage to prepare the ground for two very difficult moments without losing sight of others such as the new love story or the awareness she wants to raise about certain difficult issues? Yes, without hesitation. It is helped by resources such as flashbacksdiaries and narratives of the present to create this magnificent web. Tough and beautiful.

The characters are amazing, starting with a protagonist, Vicky, difficult to understandIt’s not that it causes us confusion, but rather frustration. Vicky’s inner world is full of conflict and pain and to reflect this part, to the point that we ourselves feel tension for her and for her decisions, is another great merit of the author. I am sure that at the end of reading Where we meet againthere will be a character that will have conquered your heart. Mine is Luis. I love everything about him. As crush, as a friend and as a human being. Also, since we know the story touches on themes, we can more or less predict what will happen, The big question is with whom, how and when. And here Angels Alemany plays the game of deception until the title, Where we meet againmakes complete sense.

Luis is her best friend and her first love. But now Vicky has someone who is also challenging her for that position. Why? What happened to Luis? Why didn’t they get together? Why does Vicky feel like she betrays him every time a new light appears in her life? Why does she make the decisions she makes when everything is going well for her?

No matter how much we speculate, Angels Alemany maintains the mystery until the end.

And what an ending! It’s not a comfortable endingIt seems that this summer has been all about awkward endings, but it will move you and you will wish that many of the things in this incredible book ending are true.

Have many underlined sentences of Where we meet again. I like to comment on this even though it does not contribute anything literary to the review, but I am one of those who think that A very underlined book has been a very vivid book. It’s been addictive too. The Angels books are. The same thing happened to me with Until the sun stops shiningAnd since this review is as intense as my reading of the book, before I give the final conclusion, let me summarize again what it is all about, what points have been covered and why it was worth reading it.

I’ll be brief. Vicky is broken. We know that she has had a suicide attempt, which is the main theme of the plot and the most controversial topic. Here I want to say that it must not have been easy for Angels to write about this and make the decisions that she has had to make as an author in this story. However, it is possibly one of the most faithful and real stories on the subject, without sugarcoating. So, stay until the end of it to understand Vicky and all the other characters. It also touches on some social aspects such as bullyinglos self-esteem problemslos regulatory bodieslos absent parents, family problems In general,… We meet Vicky at a better time in her life and we know that she has undergone therapy because it is reflected in the book, and her body image has changed. Now it is her old schoolmates who are looking for her. And not only them, but also a handsome guy who falls in love with her. This is The sweetest part of the story where Vicky will lower her defenses a little. Everything that a person who lives halfway can bring down. However, memories of his friendship with LuisAnd how this friendship evolves into… many other things (some of them silent). We also learn his (Luis’s) point of view in the form of diaries.

If we remove the most thorny issues, Where we meet again It is still a decision between two loves. Although Vicky does not realize that it is also about choosing herself.. Whether she does or not is not for me to tell you. And who she ends up with (and how, watch out for this) is not for me to tell you either. I will only say that, perhaps, looking at it in perspective… it may be that Vicky did, in the end, choose to love herself.

The end, again. If we saw it on a big movie screen, It would be more to cry than with Break the circle. You will also enjoy the book. Even if you would have done things differently (or so you think). Angels Alemany ends her story with a little bit of magic and fantasy to explain the title and close a circle (instead of breaking it) in a way that will be painful and sweet. Making pain beautifullight a cozy little fire to snuggle up next to while we remember this story.

Where we meet again by Angels Alemany is, quite simply, a story you have to read.
