Review of the book “We are fine”, by Rubén Vergara
“Boy meets boy.” With this topic we could summarize We’re ok, but we would remain only on the surface, on the cover, in a story that hides much more than it appears. And how lucky I was to enter it, with the help of the publisher. Books and Literaturebecause that’s how I discovered Eptarco and Saúl, two tremendously normal boys and at the same time magnificently special.
Its author, Rubén Vergara, introduces us to this couple displaying undoubted humor and a crazy desire to show the world what a love of youth is, a love that feels like it lasts a lifetime.
In this way, he takes us into the life of Eptarco, a boy who is in his second year of high school at a public institute, somewhat quiet, shy, with a bad temper, but a loyal heart. Everything indicates that his life is normal. However, it is not, because in reality it is the eighth child of the Vérina Azpeleguis, a successful and talented family known internationally for its macro businesses, its world-renowned artists and its numerous awards.
Yes, something anyone would want, but not Eptarchus. Because with a sister who has won Goyas and even an Oscar, another who is gifted, a world-famous soccer player brother or another brother whose works of art have been exhibited by the most renowned museums, among many other siblings, in what position? That leaves you if you are just… normal?
We also have the other part of the couple: Saúl, a young man influencer modeling, not handsome, the next thing, almost sculpted by the gods, someone that everyone wants to have around, but whom no one really knows and whose secrets are darker than his brilliant feed of Instagram it seems.
In this way, Eptarchus and Saúl meet as two boys normal In a place normal, the university library, and little by little they will begin to break down each other’s armor. Because We’re ok It talks about identity, otherness and the masks we put on to hide what makes us special or to hide what makes us human.
The style is fresh, youthful and simple, as it could not be otherwise. And I’m sure that We’re ok It will make you, the reader, smile, the tender and humble ones, the ones that you don’t even realize are there.
Books and Literature bet, on this occasion, on a romantic story, to leave your heart warm, with LGTBIQ+ representation, unforgettable characters (and not only because of how special and talented they all are!) and a couple of plot twists to drop the jaw. What more do you want in a book? Run to read it!
