Small and nice travel book, in this case on a walking journey that its author made between the Plaza Mayor of Bologna and the Cathedral of Florence; Six days to cross the Apennines for the so -called “via the gods” -to account of the toponyms related to the classic pantheon -, already traveled by the ancient Etruscans and, of course, by the Romans, scenario of bloody battles both in antiquity and in World War II; Last abode of thousands of German soldiers, land of legends and castles and, above all, of the succulent Emilian and Tuscan gastronomy (of which the author and his companion give good account). All this to reach Florence, a tourist city to the extreme, certainly, but also so full of beauty that not even the disdainful contemporary irony may feel indifferent to it. An ineffable reward for six days of effort (to some extent) and adventure (idem).
The little book, I say, is entertaining and sympathetic, although, for putting some paste, perhaps too much pays to trivial details, which cost him to raise the slope of this mountain and then a snack ate a snack or if they crossed with a man who walked with his dog. Things like this … true that these details are the binder that unites the substance of the travel chronicles, not everything will be sublime descriptions, historical references and transcendental meetings, but in a book as short as this; Nor is it that it matters a lot, because the general tone is so pleasant and its easy reading, in addition to fast, that by the time the repetition of these small men’s small.
Thus, I insist that the book reads easily and is sufficiently satisfactory; A light snack before you undertake longer walks, books that may demand from us greater concentration and, sometimes, also a greater capacity for reader sacrifice …
