Review of the book “The Cobblestone of Memory”, by Julia Gargo
I’m back with a review of a new release from the publisher Books and Literature. This time it is about The paving of memory, a novel by the writer Julia Gargo that will surprise its readers. And this novel hides within its pages mystery, love, betrayals and lies. An explosive combination that, as a result, creates a cocktail that manages to hook the reader and the story of its characters.
And who are its protagonists? Well, allow me to take you into the plot.
Jesús and Carlota have known each other since they were little. They both go to the same school in Toledo. However, each person’s reality is very different. Carlota, an adorable blonde girl with blue eyes who comes from the north, has always been the right eye of her family. From the first day of school she will discover that, although she has always been cared for, the reality is much harder and she will have to face it alone. Her classmates have taken it out on her because she is overweight and Carlota is the constant target of her teasing. Jesús, for her part, remains aloof from her, which will cause Carlota to see him as her savior and fall madly in love with that shy boy who does not mess with her because of her physical appearance.
In a time jump, the author takes us to meet a university student Jesus in Madrid. There she shares friendship and misdeeds with Eduardo, whom she meets in the Juan XXIII student residence or in the Moncloa games room, she does not remember well, but with whom she has an immediate connection from the first moment. Together they will live their first adventures, their first experiences with girls and love.
At the university, Jesus meets Eve, the perfect woman for him, “the one that Jesus had predestined so that his life would be conducted on straight lanes.” After the wedding, the children arrived: first Jaime and then Elena. For his part, Eduardo, after intense and varied dalliances, meets Paula, who will become his wife and mother of his children. Both friends, and couples, continue their friendship over the years.
But, going back to the past again, Carlota, that girl victim of bullying, and Jesús, had a meeting at a university party. From that unexpected encounter, news reaches the present that will change Jesus’ schemes and alter his life. A news that no one can know, only Eduardo, and that will be nothing more than the beginning of a plot of lies and betrayals that, page after page, grows bigger until it takes all the characters in this choral novel to the limit of themselves. themselves.
In The paving of memory All the characters have a lot to say and, at the same time, a lot to hide. Nothing is missing from this original novel that moves between the present and the past and that brilliantly explores the consequences of our actions and their impact on the present.
Enter the pages of The paving of memoryby Julia Gargo, is to undertake a journey between yesterday and today, it is to try to understand the human psyche, its chiaroscuros and, above all, to enjoy the development of characters, the environments and the unexpected turns with which the author we are surprised.
A sincere, daring and very real book that publishes Books and Literature and that will please any reader who loves good stories.
