In the year of our Lord 1530, Juan Bautista de SantamarĂa y Carranza, nephew of the most powerful archbishop in Christendom, inherits a collection of jewels from his late father, including La Peregrina, the largest and most coveted pearl in the world. The Inquisition, the rebellious Moors of the AlbaicĂn and a sect of Alumbrados who are looking for the jewel will try to prevent him from doing so. In 1920, Almudena Loudon, a young Spanish woman, leaves her native Seville to travel to London to marry by proxy Charles, an English botanist who grows and crosses orchids. After her husband’s death in strange circumstances, she must take charge of the orchids amidst the difficulties caused by the outbreak of World War II. A strange character, Ruggiero Mapelli, will cross her path, and with him she will be involved in an important mission related to a collection of pearls, among which is Juan’s. Almudena must complete in her time what Juan could not in his, within a strange connection between both characters and a strong passion for La Peregrina.
