The Crystal Cemetery
by Carlos Aurensanz
A HISTORICAL ESCAPE TOLD TO THE RHYTHM OF A THRILLER
May 22, 1938. Thousands of men remain imprisoned inside the San Cristóbal prison. Behind its walls, the Civil War mercilessly destroys the life of a country… However, on that Sunday, the feast of Santa Rita, the patron saint of the impossible, something is about to happen: a mass escape opens a window to hope.
A NOVEL TO REMEMBER
This novel begins just two years earlier, in 1936, when the war separates two young lovers. He, like most prisoners, is locked up in the penitentiary for political reasons; she, on the other hand, must stay in the village, a witness to a war that grows and grows around her. While she does everything possible to see him again, a secret kept for too long comes to light and he decides to listen carefully to the dangerous rumors that run through the corridors of San Cristóbal. It is then that the countdown begins for a frantic escape that only leaves two possibilities for the future: freedom or the crystal cemetery.
With the historical rigor that characterizes him, Carlos Aurensanz has written one of his most moving and emotional novels. The author of The Fabric of Days pays tribute to all the brave people who showed us that the most precious thing in life is that for which we would be willing to die.
Carlos Aurensanz has a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Zaragoza and works in the field of public health.
In 2009, his first novel, Banu Qasi. The Children of Cassius, was published, followed by Banu Qasi. The War of Al-Andalus and Banu Qasi. The Hour of the Caliph. This trilogy has earned him wide recognition from the public and critics, who have not hesitated to consider him one of the most important authors of historical narrative in our country. In 2015, he published The Painted Door, a suspense story that established him as a versatile author, capable of delving into any narrative genre, something he confirmed in 2021 with the family saga The Fabric of Days. The Crystal Cemetery condenses all his narrative potential: that of historical rigor, the novel with tension and a magnificent capacity for creating characters.
