Review of the book “Asphalt Fish” by Marimén Ayuso.
Wonderful immersion in everyday life and the inspiration and reality of a key stage in our history.
The novel shows us a family circumstance, and from there it spins the plot of the family, its components, the threads and relationships that are formed over time, people who occupy roles that have not been given in principle; but people’s affinities and compatibilities make them viable.
Asphalt Fish, written by Marimén Ayuso, is a novel that explores family complexities and the secrets that are hidden after generations. Set in a Spain in transition, the story follows Amalia, a woman whose life has been marked by absences and disappointments. Amalia seeks refuge in her aunt Mercedes’ house in Sant Pol de Mar, where she hopes to find answers to the secrets that have shaped her life.
The narrative focuses on the relationship between Amalia and Mercedes, two women from different generations who try to unravel the truth of their family past. The veracity of his writing, his lexical richness and his brilliant exposition of the subject, how to know how to maintain tension and concern and interest throughout the entire reading is something that characterizes “Asphalt Fish.”
In summary, “Asphalt Fish” is a work that stands out for its introspective exploration of family relationships and its ability to capture the reader’s attention through careful prose and solid narrative development. This is a recommended read for those interested in stories that combine family drama with a historical context of change and transition.
