Synopsis
Neither here nor there, it is a book that seeks to help those who have been lost when emigrating find themselves. This book talks about the experiences of those who have gone to live in another country, especially the internal experiences: mental, emotional and social.
In this book the author, Irene Del Valle, migrant and psychotherapist of immigrants and multicultural couples, opens her heart to you as an expat and shares her experience as a therapist of other foreigners and invites you to make the most important journey, towards your interior. His wish with this book is that you release the emotional excess baggage and that the distance with that place you call home is shortened by understanding, normalizing and healing your decision to live on the other side of the world; and that with this you go from feeling “Neither from here, nor from there” and you become “from here and there”
Neither here nor there does he talk about immigrants, about our external experiences, but above all about our internal experiences; of the psycho-social processes that we experience when living in another country and in another culture. This book also talks about our relationships, on the one hand, the bi or multicultural relationships that we co-create and build with our partner (if they are from another culture), with their family, with our new friends and co-workers. And on the other hand, it talks about long-distance relationships with our loved ones, those that despite the distance in time and miles continue to intertwine.
In this book I share my experience as an immigrant and as a multicultural psychotherapist, I also share the voices and experiences of other immigrants who want to share their experience and their experiences, to make the path easier for other people who are also far from home.
It all starts with a simple “what if I leave?”, “what if I study abroad?”, “what if I look for work in another country?”, “what if I venture out?”, “what if I stay See if there’s any luck?”, “What if I try to see if this relationship works?”
It all begins with a dream, with an illusion, with the expectation of a better life and with the hope that every new experience provokes, with a first trip that awakens in you an existential curiosity and that endless pleasure in discovering life.
From one moment to the next you become an eternal immigrant, who feels neither here nor there. And after trying to pack an entire life and everything you felt you would need when being away from home in a couple of suitcases, you suddenly find yourself faced with a totally different and unknown life, which you have to embrace and make now yours. If you are about to emigrate or have already emigrated and you feel lost in the process, if you do not understand why you feel what you feel, if you feel overwhelmed by the whirlwind of emotions you are experiencing, I want you to know that many Sometimes we need to get lost to find ourselves and many times we end up getting lost and finding ourselves on the other side of the world. My greatest wish with this book is that you go from being neither here nor there to being here and there, and that you feel so in control of yourself and your life, anywhere in the world.
