Valoración: Pleasant surprise

What a pleasant surprise it has meant Unusual! From this Danish comic I liked both the script of Henrik Rehr and the drawing of Jan Solheim, both authors so far unknown to me.

Let’s start talking about the script. The comic follows the steps of a woman from whom we know well: that she is American (for a comment that makes the beginning of history), which is in a foreign country and who has a strange fixation with her father. We see this woman, among other things, act paranoid in a restaurant, seek the bill back in her hotel room, keep sex with a murky artist and describe the disturbing dreams that ravage her. And we must question her, because she is a non -reliable narrator who mixes real situations with other fantasy or dreamlike, and has the perception altered by some mental illness or drugs. The thing promises, right? Let’s recapitulate: we have a non -reliable narrator and an argument that blurs the limits of the real and the dreamlike.

And, to round so appetizing premise, there is the solvent graphic section of the comic. This stands out for the quality and personality of his drawing (present in the stylization of the characters, in the distortion of the anatomy, the objects, the scenarios and the perspectives, in the limited palette of warm tones contrasted with the white, etc …) and by the fluidity of his visual narrative (a single vignette per page). And who looks for evidence of the good work of Jan Solheim, to consult the brilliantly executed scene in which the protagonist of the comic suffers a beating.

Little more to add. Just insist that Unusual It has meant a pleasant surprise. After all, this Danish thriller with psychological, criminal and surreal touches enjoys a very effective script and graphic section. What else can someone ask for for the first time in the comic of two authors that I did not know?
