I am the other woman Follow in the footsteps of Paula Denis, a decorator who is hired by a rich foreigner to renovate one of his properties in Mallorca. The young woman’s arrival in La Ensenada del Sol will cause a stir among its strange inhabitants, as well as among its closest neighbors.
Extremely entertaining “bestseller”, I am the other woman It is read avidly thanks to the agile prose with which it has been written, as well as its addictive touches of mystery and romance.
If I compare it with other novels by Luisa María Linares, I would say that I didn’t like it as much as Passionately unfaithfulbut that seemed superior to me Pablo at eight, Juan at ten. By the way, the work I am reviewing today is very similar to Pablo at eight, Juan at ten.
Both share a young, beautiful heroine tormented by love, a virile and mature ally who will accompany her on her adventures, several moderately extravagant characters, a handful of enigmas to solve, intrigues of all kinds and passions of unusual vehemence. However, I believe that these common elements are better executed in the pages of the novel at hand.
Its protagonist, for example, has much more autonomy than that of Pablo at eight, Juan at tento the point that it is she who saves the man on this occasion, and not the other way around. And the supporting cast of I am the other woman It is much more interesting and varied, and it is used better in terms of plot.
On the other hand, the setting is more suggestive. And the mystery (as well as the romance, by the way) is usually laid out organically, and there are only a couple of passages where I think the machinery is forced in that sense.
In summary: I am the other woman It is an extremely entertaining novel, which can be read in one sitting and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Perhaps it will raise the eyebrows of the most demanding readers, as it occasionally abuses artificial tricks to chain events or give clues to certain mysteries; However, if you approach it knowing what to expect, you will enjoy a well-crafted, unpretentious pastime. Sometimes, that’s all the body asks of us, right?
