In another context, one could speculate if anyone, among the approximate hundreds of authors included in Learn to write, It was not the same author, hidden under some guise, and describing his own mode of operation. Perhaps it would have been an issue to raise when I went to the tumultuous presentation of the book, a few weeks ago, at a conference that had the invaluable presence of a Enrique Vila-Matas dressed in a cap that gave him an air of elusive shyness. I did not, because I am not much of attracting attention, although the act allowed me to verify the worryingly average age of the attendees, an issue that one day will have to be addressed.
I make the comment because Colomer seems to respond to a kind of average profile of those described in this book. Journalist, chronicler, author of the youth novel and novel For all audiences (…), he also reviews with some regularity in media of great dissemination, and exercises so helpful that he is called cultural agitation That, of course, it would be an ideal concept as a professional career, if there was the minimum possibility of becoming rich with it.
From its performance in Zenda, most of the texts that this collection of articles include. Some remained unpublished and, although with patience and order, we could get many of them, so we would not have the structure that Colomer grants them by dividing them into blocks. We are not talking about transcribed interviews, but of texts worked, just two or three pages, which describe the work habits of a lot of writers of the Spanish scene (with some exception), of their maniah, their procedures, their rhythms, their locations, their schedules, their environments …
And although we can detect similarities, it is greatly stimulating to deepen it, and Colomer saves us a lot of verbiage contributing its critical sense and its acuity, analyzing its behaviors, although in a certain sense this book is better than the sum of its parts. We have here from writers who did not know to Best-Sellers manufacturing (GlUPS, Pérez Reverte) or absolute teachers (Vila-Matas, Caparrós, Enriquez) and all articles are so interesting that surely some of the authors will disappoint us, if we stick to Colomer’s logical enthusiasm when describing their Secrets Personally I have missed some authors that I would have liked to see here (perhaps a second part, Álvaro?) Like Carrión, Monzó, Ramis or Pàmies, but the book, more than the conventional highly recommended(approved labels send), would value it as perversely tempting for anyone who conceives literature beyond hubby o entertainment. It is immersing himself in his articles and throwing herself to devour shelves. And what is said about temptations is already known.
