Cures hatchery It is an “individual story” that is intended to refer to something broader. It is also “the bloody immolation of a child to the fanaticisms of his parents” (and, I would add, to those of a confessional State).).

It narrates the brief existence of Manuel (or Manolito), a young man interned according to the design of his deceased parents in a seminary. The severity of religious life, as well as the indifference of the priests who take care of him, impel him to flee. Unfortunately, he is located and punished.

As you may have guessed, Cures hatchery It is rabidly anticlerical. Sawa attacks the priests without giving them respite. Ā«Bah! Is it any chance that a priest could love anything other than the cassock he is wearing?’ he contemptuously inquires on page 55. On page 57 he is even more implacable when he states that: Ā«They were bad. Their love for the saints had absorbed and exhausted their love for humanity. They were bad to the point of being dangerous. On pages 69 and 70 he unceremoniously accuses them of being Ā«monstrous” and Ā«butcher beastsĀ».

There are many similarities between Cures hatchery y Evening. Both novels are Alexander Friend, They were written in 1888 and belong to naturalism. In both, religion, faith and, above all, their representatives on Earth are attacked with virulence. Both have identical virtues and show the same defects.

The argument of Cures hatcheryas was the case with Eveningis at the service of Sawa’s ideas. So, ideas are in the foreground, and everything else in the second. That is why the story is extremely linear, the characters are quite simple and their role in the story is often more anecdotal than would be necessary (I think, for example, of the lack of participation that Federico, Manolito’s friend , has in the plot).

The prose of both novels is very similar. A prose that is rich and expressive in its form, although at times somewhat repetitive, grandiose and prone to diluting the action or rhythm due to several dissertations.

In summary: Cure hatchery It is, just as it was Eveningan imperfect novel. Even so, it is extremely attractive as a paradigmatic example of literary naturalism (with its scientism, its determinism and its bestialization of certain characters); It also delivers as a forceful and vindictive fiction, despite the irregularity of its execution and its message.
