Wollstonecraft. The principle is always today It is a novel with historical dyes, adventures, mystery, horror and romance. We could consider it a biography (conveniently fictional, of course), by Mary Wollstonecraft, a pioneer of feminism, witness of the French revolution and mother of Mary Shelley, while a “BildungsRoman” who has as the protagonist (bad that she despite her, who wants to relegate himself to a background to focus on her lady) to her manguer.
Among its virtues I would highlight:
- Ricard Ruiz Garzón, author of the novel, must have been deafed to write it. Not only does the biography and personality of Mary W. adapt to his argument (as well as other historical material, such as Henry Fuseli’s paintings), but also manages to convincingly express the time and scenarios.
- Prose, usually simple and agile, in certain passages meets extremely well. There has only been a time when my immersion has broken (although I admit that this is a problem that I have with Catalan, and it does not seem like a versatile language when insulting or being rude).
As for sections not necessarily negative, but less achieved, it would point out that:
- The tone of the set is somewhat hesitant, because it ranges between the casual and the serious, the realistic and the fantastic, the adult and the youth.
- A certain aroma of youth literature permeates the novel (that didactic message about women’s value and selfless help, those touches of adventure, mystery, terror and romance, the design of certain characters …). Which does not bother intrinsically, although it is shocking, because neither the synopsis nor the promotion of the book had anticipated it.
- Margueritte, a sixteen -year -old orphan, is clumsy to exaggerated extremes. I understand that this feature is deliberate, but sometimes I have become very unbelievable.
Be that as it may, Wollstonecraft. The principle is always today It is a enjoyable book, and I think it would be a gratifying and enriching reading for adolescents.
