Argentina’s artist Jules illustrated and scripted Drackeran adaptation in comic format of the homonymous novel by Bram Stoker. Free adaptation, rather; And it appropriates the argument and the characters of the original material to dispose of them as it suits their particular vision.
One of the most obvious changes (and interesting, I must say) that introduces this comic is the stage and time where it takes place, replacing the decimononic London with the Mar del Plata from the mid -twentieth century.
The comic implements another change with respect to Stoker’s novel: the touch “queer” (which expands implicit eroticism of the vampire figure, holds novel roles to Jonathan Harker, Mina Harker and Lucy Westenra and, above all, resignifies the conflict between Count and Professor Van Helsing). This “queer” touch, although it is interesting at the conceptual level, nor is it particularly original nor is it completely achieved in its execution, since it barely develops.
The graphic section of the comic is competent and personal. It holds an unfinished invoice (some red sketches are guessed after the final drawings), a tendency to androgynous faces and bodies that fits perfectly with the vampire theme, and a visual narrative that flows amazingly well.
Little more to add. He Dracker jules He reads a sitting thanks to its extension (barely seventy pages), to his little text and his visual fluidity. While it is not particularly original as itteration of Stoker classic, it houses interesting ideas (although unfortunately it develops them little) and shows a graphic section that leaves a very pleasant aftertaste.
