Ildefonso Falconesmarried and father of four children, is a lawyer and writer. The cathedral of the seahis first novel, became an unprecedented global publishing phenomenon, recognized by both readers and critics and published in more than forty countries. It was also the recipient of several awards, including the Euskadi de Plata 2006 for the best novel in the Spanish language, the Qué Leer for the best book in Spanish of the year 2006, the José Manuel Lara Foundation award for the best-selling novel in 2006, the prestigious Italian Giovanni Boccaccio award in 2007 for best foreign author, the international Città dello Stretto award in 2008 and the Fulbert de Chartres in 2009.
