About the book
“Frida’s Advice” teaches us, in rhymed prose, how to find calm day by day.
The author was inspired by Frida, an abandoned dog she adopted five years ago.
The journalist and writer Noemí Martín has just published her first book, “Los Consejos de Frida”, a work in rhymed prose to instil values in children and adults and, above all, to remind us of the importance of life and how to find calm every day. The twenty-five pieces of advice she contains are inspired by the sweetness of Frida, an abused and abandoned dog that the author adopted at the Valle Colino regional shelter five years ago.
On Friday, December 2, the book was presented by journalist Eugenio González and the publishing house Babidibú in the Cilindro Hall of the TEA in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The hall was not enough due to the large number of people, and thanks to its good reception, a new presentation is planned for early January. For now, the first signing of copies has been confirmed at the El Barco de Papel bookstore, located in the municipality of El Sauzal, next Saturday, December 10 at 11:30 a.m.
“Los Consejos de Frida” began to take shape on social media, where Frida and all the animals that appear in the book have had a profile for years, @losconsejosdefrida, and it has materialized in this first work in the form of fun metaphors but with an intense educational and emotional charge aimed at audiences of all ages.
Its copies contain twenty-five pieces of advice for achieving happiness under what could be the main motto: “I had fleas, I confess”, a way of encouraging people to move forward after a setback, an abandonment or an uncomfortable past. Because, who hasn’t had fleas in their heart or soul?
For Noemí Martín, this project is a “toolbox for learning the important things in life” or a “small emotional first aid kit.” It is a socio-educational initiative, ideal for reading with children, and to remind adults that the foundations for a more serene life are within reach, but they are so obvious that they often escape us. “We rely on breathing, gratitude, loving ourselves, taking care of ourselves… and we forget about it in our daily lives,” recalls the writer from Tenerife.
The author, in addition to having a degree in Law and Journalism, is a certified mindfulness instructor by the UNED; a concentration practice that helps you stay in the present moment and feel things as they are happening without wanting to take control over them. Her training, in addition to having read and interviewed in recent years the main national and international personalities in the field of personal growth, has allowed her to transmit her knowledge about the relationship between happiness, calm and mental health through children’s literature. As a journalist, she has collaborated with various blogs and media such as the Public Radio of the Canary Islands and, in addition, she is a member of ACTE (Canary Islands Association of Writers). A minimalist and defender of the “green” life, she loves animals, as can be seen in her work.
Friendship, love and fear
Following a rhymed prose structure, and accompanied by illustrations by the Murcian artist Sarita In The CloudsThe book tells what Frida learned about friendship, fear, love and diversity after being abandoned and taken in by her new home.
Martín uses allegories to delve deeper, through Frida’s eyes and in an implicit way, into other themes such as emotional responsibility, violence or self-care. In this way, the same book has different interpretations depending on the age and maturity of the reader. “Frida’s Advice” invites the public to reflect, and offers simple guidelines to follow to improve the relationship they have with their family, friends and themselves.
The work, a loving and simple manual for life, can be purchased in traditional bookstores throughout Spain, on Amazon and through the Babidibú publishing house itself.
